Here are some ways to meet single people around town - just in time for Valentine's Day.

Concerts

“Music makes the people come together!” Not only are those some famous song lyrics by Madonna – they also double as our new dating mantra. Who knew that this pop-star could drop some seriously good hits AND good life advice? Knoxville has no shortage of good live music, and we suggest meeting your next potential date at a show! This is a pretty good idea, because you’ll already have something to bond over. Plus, if conversation gets awkward, you can resort to dancing…which hopefully won’t make things more awkward.

Need ideas for a concert? Check out our Music Monday posts each week for live music suggestions!

Downtown With A Dog

Anyone who has ever been single knows that a furry friend is your best wingman. Dogs are the easiest conversation starters, and they instantly make you the most popular person in the area. Take your pup to the dog park downtown or through Market Square to see what soul mates might flock your way.

Don’t have a dog of your own? No problem! Volunteer for Hiking Hounds with The Humane Society of East Tennessee. You can take a pup out for a walk on the weekend to help them get some exercise!

Meetup With A Meetup

Black Singles Meetup

Technically, “Meetup” is an Internet tool, but we’ll include it because nearly all of the interaction (besides scheduling meetups) happens in person. Meetup is filled with, well, “meetups” in your area. Each meetup has a specific concept (e.g. Nature Lovers, Singles in their 30s, etc.), and you can join whichever groups pique your interest! Meetup is also a great way to meet new friends in the area, so be sure to check this one out if you aren’t necessarily looking for a significant other.

Get into shape with a group at the Bearden Beer Market Fun Runs each Monday!

Join A Fun Run

If you can manage to run more than a mile without keeling over, your next hot date might be waiting for you Monday evenings at the Bearden Beer Market run. Use your runner’s high to get the confidence you need to talk to that cute guy or gal, and start a conversation over a cold pint at the beer market after you run!

These Three Incredibly Social Grocery Stores

I’m not sure what it is about the grocery stores here in Knoxville, but there are certain grocery stores that are hubs for people who are attractive, sociable, and single. It’s bizarre, but tbh I’m not one to complain about it. As someone who frequents grocery stores all around Knoxville, I can confidently say the you can find datable men and women at Whole Foods, Trader Joe’s, and Three Rivers Market. These “boutique” grocery stores might be more pricey than your neighborhood Walmart or Kroger, but stopping by every once in a while won’t hurt!

Exploring The SoKno Outdoors

Whether you’re into hiking at Ijams, water activities at the quarry, or mountain biking at Baker Creek, SoKno is a hub for all outdoorsy folks in the area. Find the nature-loving man or woman of your dreams by, simply, going outside. And as an added bonus, all of the aforementioned spots in South Knoxville are actually really fun to explore…so if you don’t end up meeting anyone you probably won’t even be upset about it.

When In Doubt, Bar

Chicago Black Singles Meetup

Bars are a pretty obvious place to meet single folks, no matter what city you’re in! Although you might meet some single people with questionable intentions, there are a couple spots that tend to attract a crowd that’s pretty normal. Our personal top pick is Pres Pub! From the rooftop patio to the live music indoors, this downtown three-story bar is your best bet at finding that special someone.
